Legendary ‘Home Alone’ House Under Contract In Just 8 Days

If you’re a fan of classic holiday films, you’re in for an absolute treat. The iconic Home Alone house, featured in the beloved 90s family movie, officially went on the market last week, creating a buzz nationwide. This home is far more than just a piece of real estate; it’s an American pop culture landmark, a piece of cinematic history, and a dream come true for any lucky movie buff. Its charm, nostalgia, and recognizable facade have made it an unforgettable symbol of holiday cheer and childhood memories.

Given its storied past and magical allure, it’s no surprise that the Home Alone house was snapped up in just 8 days for an impressive $5.25 million. This swift sale underscores the home’s iconic status and the deep emotional connection it holds for fans across the globe. From its picturesque exterior to its cozy interiors, every corner of this house evokes a sense of warmth and wonder that resonates with anyone who has ever dreamed of reliving a classic film moment.

A Cinematic Landmark

Located in one of the wealthiest suburbs in the country, just North of Chicago, this Georgian-style home in Winnetka, Illinois is instantly recognizable to any John Hughes fan or one who has enjoyed the antics of Kevin McCallister during the holiday season. Stepping into this house is like stepping onto the set of “Home Alone.” Located at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, many fans will remember the elaborate traps set by Kevin to defeat the bumbling burglars, Harry and Marv. While the interior has been updated since the movie was filmed in 1990, removing most traces of the famous holiday hijinks, the spirit of the McCallister home remains intact. The grand staircase, which featured prominently in the film, is still a focal point of the house, evoking memories of Kevin’s daring sled ride.

Did you know? The Home Alone interior shots were filmed in multiple locations. For some scenes and shots, space was too tight for cameras and crews. So production teams used neighbors’ houses as well as building a complete recreation of the home’s interior in the New Trier Township High School gym to allow for more filming space.

Timeless Charm and Modern Comfort

Built in 1921, the Home Alone house spans over 4,200 square feet. The current owners have preserved many original details while updating key areas to meet contemporary standards, as well as including a full-sized basketball court in the basement (no furnace monster included!). Check out some of the interior Home Alone house photos below to see how the house was transformed into a modern beauty while retaining its original character and charm.
